FSSC 22000 V 6.0
The FSSC 22000 Scheme is a certification scheme for food safety management systems. It is based on ISO 22000 and includes additional requirements for food safety. The scheme is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is used by organizations around the world to demonstrate their commitment to food safety.
Risk assessment is a key component of FSSC 22000 v6.0. It is a process of identifying, assessing, and controlling food safety hazards. The FSSC standard requires organizations to conduct risk assessments for all stages of their food production and supply chain.
There are five Steps to Conducting a Risk Assessment Under FSSC 22000 v6.0:
- Identify the hazards : This involves brainstorming all potential hazards that could occur at each stage of your food production and supply chain. Hazards can be biological, chemical, or physical.
- Assess the risk of each hazard : This involves considering the likelihood of each hazard occurring and the severity of the consequences if it does occur. There are a number of risk assessment tools available to help you do this.
- Determine the acceptable level of risk : This is the level of risk that your organization is willing to tolerate.
- Implement controls to reduce the risk : This involves putting in place measures to prevent hazards from occurring or to reduce the severity of the consequences if they do occur. Controls can be preventive, corrective, or detective.
- Monitor and review the risk assessment : This involves regularly reviewing your risk assessment to ensure that it is still up-to-date and that your controls are effective.
